Austria

Austria is a small country in the middle of Europe. The 8 countries that share a border with Austria are Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, Italy, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland.

Because Austria is surrounded by other countries, it doesn’t touch the ocean and has no ocean beaches. And it is so small that Austria would fit inside Alaska more than 17 times!  The capital city of Austria is Vienna and the official language is German.

About half of Austria is covered in forests, but it also has plains and tall mountains, called the Austrian Alps, t1he highest peak of these mountains is 12,457 feet.

Austria is famous for its castles, palaces and buildings, among other architectural works.

Some of Austria’s most famous castles include Festung Hohensalzburg, Burg Hohenwerfen, Castle Liechtenstein, and the Schloß Artstetten.
